The Twelve Apostles

A collection of limestone stacks off the shore of the Port Campbell National Park, by the Great Ocean Road in Victoria, Australia.

Once upon a time, as far back as 20 million years ago, these limestone stacks were connected to the mainland. Erosion made them into what they are today, and Mother Nature continues to be tough on them. The name “The Twelve Apostles” was given to these rocks because of how they stand tall and proud along the coastline. Currently, there are only eight apostles left after the ninth collapsed in 2005.
